Rare Plant and Animal Observation Mapping

NEW: WYNDD Data Explorer – view high-level information online

Observations by Township Tool – download observation-packages by township

NOTICE: WYNDD is currently in the process of building a new data-management system to allow easier, quicker access to information. While this new system is under construction, updates to current data may be infrequent, and response time for data requests we receive may be slower than usual. Until our new system is built, please use the above tool to download existing data by township, free of charge.

For requests specific to Mountain Plover or Wyoming Pocket Gopher please see our priority data compilation page.

The most commonly requested data from WYNDD are records of documented observations, or 'occurrence records', of rare plants and animals in specific project areas within Wyoming. Occurrence records can be obtained from the link at the top of this page. If you require a manual download prepared by WYNDD staff (see fee schedule below), please allow 5-10 weekdays for full processing.

Fee Schedule for requests manually filled by WYNDD
WYNDD's primary mission is to maintain a statewide database of spatial and biological information on rare species and important plant communities, and disseminate data to interested parties. State funding covers a portion of the costs associated with this mission, therefore state agencies, including the University of Wyoming, are exempt from paying fees. Monies generated through data request fees and outside contracts are used to cover the remaining costs.

Area-based requests: all Species of Concern (SOC) and Species of Potential Concern (SOPC) included in request, fee based on number of townships intersected by request area.

One township: $110.00
Each additional township intersected by the request area will add $10.00 to the base fee

1 township = $110.00
2 townships = $120.00
3 townships = $130.00
Up to a maximum of $10,000 (roughly 1000 townships, or about a third of the state)

Species-based requests: requests for specific species should use the following formula for calculating the fee

Number of Townships x Number of Taxa (for statewide requests use 2800 as the number of townships)

  • Tier 1 - if the number of taxa x the number of townships is less than 6251 then the fee = $110.00
  • Tier 2 -if the number of taxa x the number of townships is between 6250 and 62500 then multiply that product by 0.030 for fee (e.g. 25 taxa X 1000 townships = 25,000, multiplied by 0.030 = $750.00)
  • Tier 3 -if the number of taxa x the number of townships is greater than 62500 then multiply by 0.0495 for fee, up to $10,000

WYNDD will not fill data requests for persons/organizations with overdue payments.
