Plant Species of Concern - 2012

The Wyoming Plant Species of Concern List contains all vascular plant species, subspecies and varieties considered to be of conservation concern in the state. It is also known as "track list" and includes vascular plants with State-ranks of S1, in addition to some species ranked as S2.

The Wyoming Plant Species of Concern List is maintained by WYNDD with the input of the professional botany community and with new information that continuously become available. The process is ongoing, but the thorough update and new list release is periodic.

WYNDD also maintains lists of Wyoming Plant Species of Potential Concern, also known as the "watch lists" for both vascular and nonvascular plants. The vascular plant species in this category have limited global distribution, currently appear secure, but may be vulnerable to large-scale landscape changes. Agency sensitive species are also included on this list if they do not meet the criteria for the Wyoming Species of Concern List. All species on these lists warrant periodic review.

These lists have no status under state legislation. They are sometimes cited in development of sensitive species lists by federal land-managing agencies. In general, federal sensitive species list criteria are narrower and more geographically restricted than criteria used for inclusion on the Wyoming Species of Concern List. The list contents and s-rank values depend on state ranking factors. In addition, a Wyoming Contribution Rank is calculated as indicating the relative contribution of species' status in Wyoming over its rangewide status.

Further information is included on the 2012 vascular and nonvascular plant list pages.
