Trichomoniasis Submission Guidelines, effective January 1, 2017

To all WSVL clients,

As you are probably aware, there have been significant changes in the Wyoming Livestock Board Chapter 15 rules for trichomoniasis testing.  Among a variety of changes, the new rules include limiting official trichomoniasis testing to PCR tests.  The rules also explicitly allow pooling of up to 5 samples for testing.  A new official Trichomoniasis Test Record form has also been instituted.

These changes are significant and WSVL has had to modify our procedures to assure that our trichomoniasis testing is both consistent with the WLSB rules and is acceptable to our partners in other states.  To accommodate these changes we have revised our submission guidelines for trichomoniasis testing.  Two major changes are a requirement that samples for PCR testing be submitted in TF Transit Tubes (Biomed Diagnostics) and that we will no longer routinely be performing culture testing for trich.  There are also new guidelines for shipping and options for incubating samples prior to shipment.  These are explained in greater detail in the attached document.

I understand that these changes may create some problems in the short term so we will not be fully implementing the trichomoniasis submission guidelines until January 1, 2017.  As always, if you have any questions please contact the WSVL and we will do our best to help.
