21st Century Community Learning Centers Grant

The 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21cclc) was originally part of The 21st Century State Incentive Grant (21 SIG) project, a braided funding of four streams into one grant project. The 21cclc is funded by the Wyoming Department of Education (WDE). As the other funding streams finished, this funding continued. The original 21cclc project funded 24 sub-recipient communities. In 2004, additional monies were distributed by WDE to add four new communities, and again WDE distributed additional money in 2005 to add seven new communities. Each grant period is over the course of five years.

The goal of the 21cclc is to increase academic performance, and improve classroom behavior. WYSAC plays an important role in this project by providing evaluation research at the state, community, and center levels. WYSAC has trained each sub-recipient community on evaluation, has gathered and analyzed process and outcome data for each program, and has assisted the sub-recipient communities in using evaluation data to improve programming and to plan for sustainability.

Program outcomes have been measured by collecting teacher reports on the academic performance of participants. Preliminary data statewide show that classroom behavior has improved, and that Math and Language Arts proficiency ratings and grades have also improved.
