Awards, Scholarships & Fellowships

The department of Zoology and Physiology is fortunate to have a number of awards, fellowships, and scholarships to recognize the achievements of undergraduate and graduate students. Applications for the awards listed here are available at the administrative office of the Department of Zoology and Physiology (Room 428, Biological Sciences Building). You can also download the application form online. Details of the award are contained in each application. Applications are distributed during the Spring semester, to be applied to  the following academic year or Summer session courses or research.

The University of Wyoming Admissions website offers additional resources on University-wide scholarships for undergraduates and financial assistance for graduate students


1). The Wildlife Society Graduate Scholar Award (no award will be made in 2013)

    * Awarded to a graduate student conducting research related to wildlife.

    * Please submit a 2-page, single-spaced proposal articulating the focus of your research, and the names and contacts for 3 references.

2). The Wildlife Society Undergraduate Scholar Award (no award will be made in 2013)

    * Awarded to a junior or senior pursuing a career related to wildlife.

    * Please submit a 1-page letter indicating your scholarly achievements, professional interests and ambitions, and how the scholarship will help meet your goals. Also please provide the names and contact info for two references.

Additional stipulations are that awardees (if still in WY) must attend the annual conference in the fall (and are encouraged to present their research there), and must already be or agree to become a WY TWS member. Preference may also be given to current members of the UW student chapter of TWS.

1)    Frederic E. Clements Scholarship in Ecology
    * Junior or senior in ecology
    * Administered by the Departments of Zoology & Physiology, Botany, Geography & Recreation, and Renewable Resources (Rangeland Ecology and Watershed Management)

2)    Vern Bressler Fisheries Scholarship
    * Junior, senior or graduate student (Wyoming resident) studying fisheries biology or management Preference given to cold water fisheries
    * Offered with the School of Environment and Natural Resources

3)   Women in Conservation Biology Scholarship - Deadline: Friday, November 1, 2013


1)    Absaroka Flycasters Fisheries Scholarship
    * Senior in fisheries management

2)    George T. Baxter Fellowship
   * Graduate student interested in fisheries, aquatic biology or herpetology

3)    Great Plains Fishery Worker's Association Scholarship

    * Junior, senior, or graduate student majoring in Wildlife and Fisheries Biology and Management

4)    Dennis Jespersen Memorial Scholarship
    * Junior, senior, or graduate student with a commitment to a career in fisheries management in the State of Wyoming
    * Sponsored by the Wyoming Wildlife Federation

5)    Louis C. "Red" Rockett Memorial Scholarship
    * Junior, senior and graduate student in fisheries management

6)    Michael Yakimovich Memorial Scholarship
    * Junior or senior undergraduate in fisheries management


1)    Reed W. Fautin Memorial Scholarship
    * Junior, senior, or graduate student interested in terrestrial ecology or wildlife management

2)    Jackson Hole One Fly Foundation Dennis Andersen Memorial Scholarship
    * Graduate student studying aquatic ecology

3)    Robert A. Jenkins Undergraduate Research Award
    * Junior conducting research in physiology, genetics, molecular, cellular or developmental biology

4)    Dr. George E. Menkens Memorial Scholarship
    * Ph.D student in zoology

L. Floyd Clarke

1)    L. Floyd Clarke Graduate Scholar Award
    *  Graduate student (MS and Ph.D) beginning a research project

2)    L. Floyd Clarke Greater Yellowstone Scholarship
    * Graduate and undergraduate student conducting research in social, biological or physical science

    * Graduate or undergraduate student
