STUDENT ORGANIZATION CLASSIFICATIONS

    LEVEL 1 STudent Org


    Level 1 is the designation given to a Student Organization that has demonstrated its primary mission is for the benefit of its organization’s members. Level 1 Student Organizations are a separate legal entity and operate under the direction and control of its own members.

    Benefits

    • Cowbell page
    • Access to equipment rental, poster room, staff advising, and marketing resources, which includes poster run, digital signage boards, etc.
    • Participate in workshops, trainings, and leadership opportunities
    • Host events and meetings on University of Wyoming grounds and buildings
    • Permitted to use the Steamboat (bucking horse) logo for publicity and news releases in alignment with the Brands Standards Manual and Trademark & Licensing guidelines
    • Execute the organization’s own contracts
    • May enter into sponsorship agreements with campus departments and programs to access support and resources, including ASUW Funding

    Limitations

    • Comply with travel and events registration requirements with the University
    • May not use the “University of Wyoming” before the organizations name but is permitted refer to its organization as Wyoming [Insert Organization] or [Insert Organization] at the University of Wyoming
    • Operates its own Tax Identification Number and completes all necessary IRS documentation

    LEVEL 2 Student ORg


    Level 2 is the designation given to a Student Organization that has demonstrated its purpose to be both aligned with the mission and culture of the University and the benefit of the members internal to the organization.

    Benefits

    • All Level 1 benefits plus
    • Support from the University regarding risk management and contract review.
    • May use the "University of Wyoming" name before the Student Organization name
    • Permitted to use University trademarks and insignia for publicity and news releases in alignment with the Brands Standards Manual and Trademark & Licensing guidelines.
    • Host funds in the UW Foundation (commonly referred to as a foundation account

    Additional Expectations

    • Designate an advisor that is a full-time member of the staff/faculty of the University
    • Comply with travel and events registration requirements with the University
    • Establish an Operations Guide
    • If connected to a University program or organization, the Student Organization must comply with all policies, rules, and procedures of the sponsored University program

    LEVEL 3 Student Org


    Level 3 is the designation given to a Student Organization that has demonstrated purpose that contributes and is intertwined to the mission and or traditions of the University.

    Criteria

    • Primary mission is for the benefit of members and/or University; and,
    • Activities of the organization are part of the culture of campus and aligned with the University’s or specific programs’ mission/traditions; and,
    • Organization receives support from a staff-appointed advisor rather than volunteer; OR, organization receives physical space from which to operate

    Benefits

    • All Level 1 and 2 benefits

    Additional Expectations

    • Designate in existing officers duties or add an additional officer to manage risk for an organization
    • Organaization must have an advisor if not already staff-appointed
    • Establish an Operations Guide
