Biography:

Yi-Ling Chen is an associate professor in International Studies and Geography at the University of Wyoming. Her research interest is about the interaction of urban planning and social change, focusing on urban social movements, particularly those concerning housing access.

Her published works are on housing, gender, urban movements, and regional development in Taiwan. She recently expanded her research to compare East Asian cities, Amsterdam, and Denver in their implementations of social housing. She is editing a book on contesting urban space in East Asia (Palgrave MacMillan).

Inspired by Susan Fainstein's work on the Just Cities, Yi-Ling visited University of Amsterdam to study Dutch social housing with Richard Ronald in the spring of 2017. In 2016, she visited Asia Research Institute at National University of Singapore, the Seoul Institute in South Korea, Academia Sinica in Taiwan, and David C. Lam Institute for East-West Studies at Hong Kong Baptist University.

Yi-Ling Chen taught at National Dong Hua University in Taiwan before joining the University of Wyoming. She received her Ph.D. in urban planning from Rutgers University, M.S. in Building and Planning and B.S. in Civil Engineering from National Taiwan University. She has taught the following courses:
