Why You Should Get Involved with Clubs and Organizations

Getting involved through various clubs and organizations on campus is a great way to make friends with similar interests.

Before we get into the how, lets briefly talk about why you should join an RSO (recognized student organization) or club. Getting involved with a student club or organization can be one of the best ways to meet new people with similar interests and, in-turn, establish lifelong friendships. Joining a student organization or club can also help you to gain skills, explore creative outlets or help the University of Wyoming become even better than it already is. Do it, trust me! This is something that I didn't figure out until my senior year and I wish more than anything that I would’ve gotten more involved in student organizations much earlier in my college experience.

Join a student organization

Check out the hundreds, and yes, I said hundreds of student organizations and clubs. Join anything from Billiards Club to Cycling Club to the university’s variety of sororities and fraternities. You can check out the full list of 250+ student organizations here. Incoming students can use their UW credentials to log in to uwconnect and find more information about each specific organization as well as the club’s meeting time and location. Or if you have questions, use the site to find a club’s primary contact person and ask away!

Start a student organization

If the 250+ current student organizations don’t meet your needs, you can also start your own student organization, how cool is that? All you need is seven members and an advisor to apply! Find more information about forming a new student organization here.

Student events

Consider getting involved with student events on campus. 7220 Entertainment is part of UW’s Student Organizations and Entertainment Office and is the organization responsible for bringing events to campus. Events sponsored by 7220 include anything from large-scale concerts to trivia nights to art shows to speakers. 7220 Entertainment is comprised of five different student-led committees that plan and promote events on campus. I am a member of 7220 Entertainment and joining was one of the best decisions I’ve made in my time here at UW. I have met so many new people and have had so much fun helping bring new events to campus. You can learn more about 7220 Entertainment and how to become a member here.

Student government

The Associated Students of the University of Wyoming (ASUW) is the student government organization at the University of Wyoming and acts as the voice of students on campus. Find out more about ASUW and their meetings here.
