The Endless Number of Food Options at UW

Washakie Dining Center offers a fantastic array of delicious food and meal plans for students.

Food. Food is an essential part of living, and the University of Wyoming knows this. As students, there’s a definite need for brain power, and UW is here to supply its community with the necessary foods to get those nutrients. There are several great spots to grab good food on campus, and the Washakie Dining Center provides residential and commuter meal plans all year long.

Food options around campus

The abundant number of coffee shops on campus makes it easy (and delicious) to get that morning boost of caffeine. The Book & Bean is located in the library, Rolling Mill Cafe is right in the middle of the Union, Encore Café is in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts, elements is in the buzzing Classroom Building and Einstein Bros. Bagels, which is in the Enzi STEM building, serves the best coffee on campus, in my opinion. Pastries and other baked goods can be found at many of these locations along with sandwiches, bagels and so much more. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, right?

Cowboy Joe’s Convenience Store is conveniently placed in the path everyone passes in the Union, so there’s no need to skip lunch when there are multiple quick food options at CJ’s. It’s laid out like any convenience store, so there’s a lot of chips, drinks and a variety of lunches like sushi plates, wraps and sandwich options. If I get sushi in Laramie, this is where I head first.

Speaking of the Union, this is one of the main hubs for food. On top of Rolling Mill Café and CJ’s, the Union also houses Panda Express, Fujisan, Los Vaqueros and Pita Pit. Another main spot for some grub is Rendezvous located in Ross Hall. Inside, there are a variety of food options like Nelli’s Deli, freshly made salads, the Caliente Grill, which serves some of the best nachos in Laramie and, of course, more coffee.

Washakie Dining Center

With several different serving platforms, the options in Washakie are always changing, so people aren’t eating the same thing every day. There are also gluten-friendly options as well as vegetarian and vegan options at most stations.

As part of the residence hall contract, all students living in the residence halls must purchase a residential meal plan listed here. However, Washakie Dining Center is not just for those who live in the residence halls, it’s also available for the entire UW community. While there is varied walk-in pricing, those who like to dine at Washakie on a regular basis can purchase a non-residential meal plan, which is also at the link above. Each meal plan is different because people and their eating habits are different.

Dining Dollars

With the residential plans, Dining Dollars are automatically applied to WyoOne cards with amounts ranging from $75-$290 based on the chosen plan. Dining Dollars are pre-paid spending dollars that can be used to purchase food and beverage at any of the campus dining locations or additional meal purchases at Washakie Dining Center. Dining Dollars can also be purchased by anyone here.

We all love food, and UW supplies the campus with plenty of great options. Good food is timeless and, resident or not, the UW community has several options around campus and at Washakie. No matter if someone spends one semester or 30 years at UW, they never have limited food options.
