Feeling ready to tour and explore the beauty and excitement of the University of Wyoming? Whether you are looking to experience campus from the comfort of your home or visit in person, we have you covered! You can check out our virtual tours, in-person appointments, join us for a weekday visit, or attend one of our special admissions events, such as the UW Showcase, coming up this November. As a UW student, I’ve found some must-see spots that give you a real taste of what campus life is all about. Here are my top five places to see on your visit to the University of Wyoming.
The Wyoming Union is the heart of the University of Wyoming and where campus life truly comes alive. Whether you’re grabbing a bite at Panda Express, picking up books or gear at the University Store, or meeting up with your friends, the Union has it all. Open daily, it’s the perfect spot to get homework done between classes or catch up with friends. With plenty of places to study, a variety of dining options, and even a game room at Pokes Pub, it is easy to see why everyone says, "Meet me at the Union!"
If you're planning to visit the University of Wyoming, be sure to check out the residence halls. First-year students are required to live on campus, and it's the best way to get connected with other students right from the start. Our halls at UW, McIntyre, White, and Downey, offer cozy rooms, social spaces, and are right next to all your classes and campus resources including Washakie Dining Center. Each hall has Resident Assistants on stand-by 24/7 that are there to help whenever you need, especially when you lock yourself out of your room. Not ashamed to say I did this more than once during my time living in the residence halls! Plus, North & South Hall, our brand-new residence halls, are set to open in Fall 2025!
The Classroom Building is likely where you’ll have most of your classes, especially in your first year at UW. I know I’ve had a few classes here, so it should definitely be a priority stop during your visit. With rooms that seat anywhere from 24 to 208 students, you'll experience everything from lectures to small discussions here. It’s a shared space for departments so whether you’re studying English, Math, or History, almost every major has at least one class in this building. Shaped like a Reese's peanut butter cup, it also features the Elements Café, perfect for grabbing some caffeine before your 8AM class or an afternoon study session. Elements Café serves a variety of breakfast sandwiches and coffee from 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM on school days.
War Memorial Stadium is an absolute must-visit for any football fan exploring the University of Wyoming. Seating nearly 30,000 fans, War Memorial Stadium sits at 7,220 feet of elevation, making it the highest NCAA DI football stadium. I can tell you from firsthand experience that the game day atmosphere here is next level. Cowboy football has been played at War Memorial since 1950, but that just means we have had a lot of time for improvements, like the new premium loge-style seats and the stunning Turf Field. Plus, full-time UW students get free admission to all home sporting events, including Cowboy football! I definitely take advantage of this and i recommend you do too as it’s a big part of campus life and an experience you will not want to miss.
If you’re anything like me and fitness is a big part of your routine, Half Acre will likely become a central part of your campus experience. Half Acre is open every day of the week and this state-of-the-art facility is available at no cost to full-time students. Half Acre offers everything you need for a great workout. Multiple basketball courts, over 100 pieces of cardio equipment, a fully equipped 17,000+ square foot weight room, and even a rock-climbing wall. If you need a little extra help the Wellness Center offers personal training, massage therapy, and an integrated approach to fitness. Whether you're lifting weights or attending one of the many group fitness classes, Half Acre has something for everyone. Don’t forget to check out the Half Acre Recreation and Wellness Center Website for more information!
