Spring break is often associated with beach trips, tropical getaways, and massive parties but if you’re staying in Laramie, those are pretty out of the way. But no need to worry! There are plenty of ways to make the most of your break right here in Laradise! I’ve reached out to our very own Cowboy Coaches to get some veteran advice for a true Laramie Vacation. Whether you’re looking for adventure, relaxation, or something in between, here’s what they had to say.
What are your favorite things to do in Laramie over spring break, and why?
Jackie Ramirez, Junior, Kinesiology
"My favorite food spots in Laramie are Nikos or Almanza's with my friends because the environment and food are so good and fun. I also enjoy
bowling at Laramie Lanes or catching a movie at Studio City for some quality time."
Laramie may not be a major city, but it has its fair share of solid spots. If you’re looking for a night out with friends, a mix of good food and some casual activities like bowling or a movie can make for a perfect evening.
Sam Welsh, Junior, Finance and Economics
"Indulging in some warmer weather activities that are more doable now that winter
is rapping up. Hiking and climbing could be a great idea!"
Amelia Seim, Junior, Psychology and Honors
"Over spring break, I like to utilize this time to go outdoors and enjoy the weather."
Liz Underbrink, Junior, French
“My favorite thing to do in Laramie over break is to go fishing while the weather
is nice, but still not too hot!”
While the weather in Wyoming can be unpredictable, spring break is a great time to check out local trails, climbing spots, and fishing spots. The outdoors community is massive here in Laradise so take full advantage of our resources. I’d recommend checking out Vedauwoo if the conditions are good. Even if it's still chilly, getting outside and moving can be a refreshing change of pace.
What is one hidden gem or underrated activity in or around Laramie that you’d recommend to students staying over break?
Jackie Ramirez, Junior, Kinesiology
"An underrated activity in Laramie is Art & Soul Pottery. I would highly recommend it to students staying over break."
If you’re looking for something relaxing and creative, painting pottery at Art & Soul is a great way to unwind. Plus, you get to leave with something you made yourself. Perfect for adding some more decorations to your dorm or apartment.
Sam Welsh, Junior, Finance and Economics
"One underrated activity is UW’s intramural sports program."
UW offers a variety of intramural sports, and spring break is a good time to get together with friends for a casual game. Whether it's basketball, soccer, or even just tossing a frisbee at Prexy’s, getting active is always a good idea.
Christian Walker, Senior, Anthropology
"If you are staying in Laramie for break, try and get some friends together to head
to a thrift store or antique shop to see who can find some gems!"
Thrifting is not only a fun challenge but also a great way to find unique clothes or cool decor. NU2U and other small thrift shops around town are definitely worth a visit if you’re looking for a low-key way to spend the day with some friends.
What advice do you have for students who want to make the most of their time in Laramie during spring break?
Izzy Sullivan, Sophomore, Kinesiology and Psychology
"Spend as much time with your friends who are staying in Laramie as well and try to
be productive."
Spring break is a great time to deepen friendships with those who are also in town. Whether it’s a a picnic in Prexy’s or a spontaneous road trip, taking the time to bond can make for some great memories.
Jackie Ramirez, Junior, Kinesiology
"Get outside and be physically active. Nature is very rechargeable."
Even if you’re not hiking or climbing, just taking a walk around campus or downtown can be a great way to clear your mind and reset before the second half of the semester.
Sam Welsh, Junior, Finance and Economics
"Make sure to hang out with friends and family as much as you can during this time.
It replenishes my nerves for the semester and helps me keep my head on straight."
Spring break is a great time to check in with the people who keep you grounded. Whether that means spending time with family, calling an old friend, or just enjoying a slow morning with a coffee, make time for yourself and those who matter to you.
Christian Walker, Senior, Anthropology
"I would recommend taking a break from most schoolwork and recouping. Take a rest
and think about some ways you want to grow and finish the semester strong! Sometimes,
it helps to get a head start on required readings too."
While taking a break is important, using a little of your free time to organize your schedule or review material can help you feel more prepared when classes start up again.
Spring break in Laramie doesn’t have to be binging TikToks for a week. It’s all about how you choose to spend it! Whether you’re exploring the outdoors, enjoying the local food scene, or catching up on personal projects, there’s plenty to do. Take this advice from fellow Cowboys and make the most of your time off. No matter how you spend the week, it’s a chance to relax, recharge, and maybe even discover a new favorite activity in town. Go Pokes!
Special Thanks to our Cowboy Coaches
