First Year Orientation 2020

What is First Year Orientation?

First Year Orientation is an opportunity for newly admitted students to acclimate to life on campus at 7,220 feet! During your session, you will meet UW faculty and students, receive academic advising and register for classes, and discover ways to get involved in student life. You will experience living in the residence halls, and have a chance to meet fellow incoming students.

Why attend Orientation?

Students find orientation as the best way to ease their transition to campus life. You and your family will become better prepared for your time here, and you will have a head start on making your UW experience a truly memorable one.

We encourage family members to attend First Year Orientation with their student! Each session provides an opportunity to become familiar with UW's campus and its resources, its policies, and the adjustments you and your student may face throughout the college experience. You will also have your questions or concerns answered in person, and learn what it means to be part of our Cowboy Family.

How to register?

Orientation registration is open.  Students must confirm their enrollment and pay their deposit prior to being able to register.  Please note, it may take up to one business day after you pay your enrollment deposit for your Orientation link to become active on your account.  Click here to login to your WyoRecords account and then click the Orientation Signup link to begin.

Don't Forget...

  • Orientation Waivers-Disciplinary Procedures and Activity Waiver (3 pages)
  • Submit your immunization records for verification
    • UW requires students to submit proof of two Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR) vaccinations. To be in compliance with the MMR immunization requirement, the immunization record must show your name, date of birth, and be signed on or after the date of the second MMR immunization by your medical provider or a representative of a health care agency.  These need to be submitted before your orientation session as you will not be able to register for classes without them.  Your immunization hold is not cleared until you have a green checkmark on your WyoWeb account.  Please contact Student Health Service if you have any questions at (307) 766-2132 or StudentHealth@uwyo.edu.
  • Parking Permit-Included in the final confirmation email sent a week prior to the student's registered session.
  • Upload your WyoOne ID photo at wyoweb.uwyo.edu
  • Hotel Information
  • Orientation Frequently Asked Questions
  • Complete your Prepare for Registration Checklist (UW Alert, Emergency Contact, etc.) through your WyoWeb account:  Click here to view the "How to" video.
  • Math Placement Testing

Most incoming students to the University of Wyoming are required to take the math placement exam (MPE) prior to registering for a math course. It is recommended that you take this test at least 7 days prior to attending Orientation, and any retakes at least 24 hours prior to your Orientation session. (This allows time to prepare, participate in online tutoring, and retest if desired.)

Complete information about the Math Placement Exam, preparation materials and possible exceptions to the math placement testing policy can be found on the math department web page, https://www.uwyo.edu/mathstats/math-placement/. The site also includes a link to the testing site, “Get Started” button, and you may also follow the link from your WyoWeb check list when you are ready to take the test.

The test is available online via your WyoWeb account. The cost is $15 plus tax for the ALEKS package and $10 for Honorlock Proctoring (per attempt).  The fees can be paid via a credit/debit card just prior to taking the exam. We want you to receive the best information possible while at orientation, to do this we recommend the following:

    • Bring a print out or screen shot of the math placement score you received, above.
    • Bring an unofficial copy of all transcripts for college level courses you took prior to attending UW. (This includes dual enrollment courses at your community college while still in high school.)
    • If you took the AP – either the AB or BC exam for Calculus, and are awaiting results, please stop by the math table at the resource fair on day 1 to discuss your options.
    • Stop by the Math Placement table during check-in on day 1 if you have any questions regarding your score, possible exceptions to the testing policy or what your math options might be.
