Homecoming 2018 Student Activities

Homecoming Student Activities for 2018 will be announced as they are confirmed. 

Homecoming T-Shirt and Pizza Giveaway

Presented by Associated Students of the University of Wyoming (ASUW)

When: Friday, October 12 from 10:45 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

Location: Simpson Plaza


The Big Event and 2018 Homecoming Kickoff

Presented by Service, Leadership and Community Engagement (SLCE)

When: Saturday, Oct. 13 at 9:00 a.m.

Location: Simpson Plaza

Description: The Big Event is an opportunity for UW students to say thank you to residents of the greater Laramie community for the support they provide to the university by volunteering at homes, businesses, and local non-profits. Our goal is to make this a BIG EVENT so we can say a BIG THANK YOU.

Presented by Fraternity and Sorority Life (FSL)

Horseshoe Scavenger Hunt

Presented by Associated Students of the University of Wyoming (ASUW)

When: Tuesday, Oct. 16 to Friday, Oct. 19

Location: Campus Wide

Description: Throughout the week of Homecoming, beginning on Tuesday, students will be challenged to find horseshoes hidden around campus. Clues will be posted on ASUW social media each day until every horseshoe is found. Upon discovery of the horseshoes, students will need to bring them to the ASUW office in order to receive awesome prizes! Updates about the search and the results will also be posted on the ASUW Facebook and Twitter pages. 


Homecoming Student Dinner and Pep Rally

Presented by Residence Life and Dining Services (RLDS) and Student Affairs 

When: Wednesday, Oct. 17 from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Location: Washakie Dining Center

Description: Gather your friends on Oct. 17 and head to Washakie Dining Center for an evening of fun and great food. Have a meal plan? Simply swipe in! If not don't worry, the first 250 students get tasty food free of charge. At 7:15 p.m., everyone will assemble in front of Orr Hall for a pep rally walk over to the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts Concert Hall for the Homecoming Sing!


Homecoming Sing

Presented by Iron Skull

When: Wednesday, Oct. 17 at 7:30 p.m.

Location: Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts Concert Hall 

Description: Don’t miss the opportunity to compete in the oldest Homecoming tradition at the University of Wyoming and win the $1,000 grand prize! Teams from across campus will come together for a night of laughter, entertainment and fun competition. The competition is open to UW students* and you must enter as a group of three or larger. Prizes will be awarded for winning teams from each category, and a grand prize of $1,000 will be given! Homecoming Sing will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 17 in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts Concert Hall. To participate, student groups must complete and submit the Homecoming Sing application and supporting materials outlined in the Homecoming Sing Rules. Registration deadline is Friday, October 12 before 5:00 p.m.*Organized campus singing groups are not able to compete. Must attend rehearsal the night before to participate.

Homecoming Dance

Presented by Cowboy Country Swing Club

When: Thursday, Oct. 18 at 8:00 p.m. 

Location: Yellowstone Ballroom, Wyoming Union 

Description: Join the Cowboy Country Swing Club for dance lessons from 8:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and then enjoy open dancing from 9:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.


Car Push

Presented by UW Athletics 

When: Thursday, Oct. 18 at 5:00 p.m. (Weigh-in starts at 4:30 p.m.)

Location: Southwest ramp of War Memorial Stadium (near gate 1)

Description: The Homecoming Car Push is a long-standing UW tradition, don’t miss it! Sign your group up for a battle of strength and speed. There are two weight divisions: 1,000-1,999 pounds and 2,000-2,999 pounds. Feel free to sign-up as many team members as you want, but their collective weight must fit into one of the two weight classifications. The competition takes place on the southwest ramp of War Memorial Stadium (near gate 1). Weigh-ins will occur at 4:30 p.m. at the competition site. The Car Push officially starts at 5:00 p.m. The winner from each weight classification will receive a banner.

Event Notes: Dress is athletic clothes and closed-toed shoes. 

Judging Criteria: This is a timed event. Fastest time per weight division wins.

ASUW Annual Pig Roast

Presented by Associated Students of the University of Wyoming (ASUW)

When: Friday, Oct. 19 from 10:45 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

Location: Prexy's Pasture

Description: Another great tradition sponsored by ASUW, follow our signs and stop by Prexy’s Pasture for pulled pork sandwiches and enjoy music, corn hole, and other activities! A vegetarian option will also be available. 


Homecoming Parade

Presented by the UW Alumni Association (UWAA)

When: Saturday, Oct. 20 at 8:00 a.m. (line-up starts at 7:00 a.m.)

Location: Begins at 9th and Ivinson

Description: We hope you enjoy participating in this great UW tradition! Parade line-up will begin at 7:00 a.m. Entries will compete for the chance to receive traveling trophies.

Registration: The parade application is due back to the Alumni Office by 4:00 p.m. on Friday, October 12.


Homecoming Student Tailgate

Presented by Student Affairs and Athletics 

When: Saturday, Oct. 20 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Location: Old Tailgate Park (directly south of the Fieldhouse)

Sophomore and Freshmen Tug of War and Campus Tour

Presented by the SPURS

When: Saturday, Oct. 20 immediately following the parade 

Location: Between Merica Hall and Arts & Sciences, near the Ben Franklin statue, where the Peanut Pond once was

Description: To begin with a Tug of War, an old tradition between sophomores and freshmen. Immediately following will be a campus tour led by Dr. Phil Roberts. Events are scheduled to last about an hour and a half.


Football Game: Wyoming vs. Utah State

When: Saturday, Oct. 20 at 12:30 p.m. MT

Location: War Memorial Stadium
