ARCC Student Ambassadors Program

The Advanced Research Computing Center (ARCC) is seeking students from research labs to represent their lab in the ARCC Student Ambassadors Program. The fastest growing group of people taking advantage of ARCC resources are students. Research from the IDEA center at Kansas State University about cooperative learning in higher education classrooms shows the benefits of students’ learning from and, more importantly, with one another.

“...cooperative learning improves college students’ achievement, persistence, and attitudes. Collaboration with fellow learners increases motivation and helps students take responsibility for their own and their peers’ learning. Included among the process-oriented goals achieved by collaboration is the development of marketable skills such as problem-solving, project management, team-player competencies, communication, and social skills”

The ARCC Student Ambassadors Program was created to instruct a group of UWyo students as Research Computing Facilitators so that they may take the skills that they learn back to their lab mates. Students in this program will be the interface between the ARCC experts and their peers to:

  1. Express any concerns that their home lab may have to the experts

  2. Receive specialized training from the ARCC experts

  3. Learn to assist their lab mates

  4. Learn valuable professional skills

The Student Ambassadors group will meet weekly. Date(s), time(s), and location are yet to be determined, but will begin in Fall 2019. If you are a UWyo student or you know of a student who would be a good candidate for the ARCC Student Ambassadors Program, please contact End User Support Manager Dylan Perkins at dperkin6@uwyo.edu.
