Documentation

Wiki

The ARCC provides extensive documentation on the training, use, and accessibility of UWyo Research Computing resources. It is intended to be a comprehensive resource for anyone looking to learn more about the ARCC and the services/resources they provide. This resource can be found at the ARCC Wiki.

Policies

The ARCC also provides a list of general computer use policies, procedures, and security rules that apply to individual end users of ARCC resources. These policies and procedures are intended to ensure that UWyo Research Computing resources are used effectively to support UWyo's research programs. A brief summary of each policy is provided here. The full list of policies can be found at the ARCC Policies Wiki Page.

Terms of Use Policy:

The process of requesting an allocation on an ARCC resource includes acceptance of any policies specific to that resource, and of this Terms of Use which applies to all ARCC resources. ARCC resources may only be used for research activities and activities authorized by the University. Password sharing and all other forms of account sharing are prohibited. ARCC users are accountable for their actions. If it has been determined that you have violated any of the ARCC resource policies, or any other UWyo computing policies, your account(s) will be deactivated immediately. Your account will not be reactivated until the ARCC director receives a formal request from the Principal Investigator of your project.

Although ARCC takes steps to ensure the integrity of stored data, ARCC does not guarantee that data files are protected against destruction. In some cases, ARCC may elect to make backup copies of some data files. When backup copies are made, ARCC reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to hold such backup copies indefinitely or to delete them.

More information on this policy can be found at the Terms of Use Policy Wiki Page.

Privacy Policy:

The information collected through this site, and other UWyo pages/sites linked from it (e.g. a help ticket system), includes the necessary information to provide and manage ARCC products and services. This site complies with the general UWyo Privacy Policy, and the least amount of data needed to perform the required functions will be collected.

While we will take reasonable steps to protect the information that you provide to us from unauthorized access or disclosure, ARCC users have no explicit or implicit expectation of privacy. UWyo retains the right to actively monitor all ARCC resources, activities on ARCC resources and networks and to access any file without prior knowledge or consent of ARCC users, senders, or recipients. We will release information gathered through monitoring if required by law. UWyo/ARCC may, at its discretion, share information gathered through monitoring with incident response organizations.

More information on this policy can be found at the Privacy Policy Wiki Page.

Acknowledgement Policy:

At the end of each academic year, ARCC requires an accomplishment report from each PI containing the research results obtained using ARCC resources, a list of scientific publications that resulted from this research, the names and affiliations of graduate students who used ARCC resources, and the title, author, and relevant citation data for any theses or dissertations produced using ARCC computational resources. Cite your use of computing resources managed by ARCC using a format that includes the relevant Digital Object Identifier (DOI) for the ARCC resource.

More information on this policy can be found at the Acknowledgement Policy Wiki Page.

ARCC Policies HPC:

HPC accounts are available for all University faculty, staff and students for the purpose of research. The login nodes are provided for authorized users to access the Teton cluster. Do NOT run compute intensive, long running tasks, or large numbers of tasks on the login nodes.

General software usage, functionality and application questions should be addressed by the research computing community. To support the community support model, ARCC will make available a community driven Known Error Database in the form of a Wiki with discussion board features.

In general, the disk space is intended for support of research using the cluster, and as a courtesy to other users of the cluster you should try to delete any files that are no longer needed or being used. All data on the HPC, are considered to be related to your research and not to be of a personal nature. Note that none of the Teton file systems are backed up.

More information on these policies can be found at the ARCC Policies HPC Wiki Page.

ARCC Policies Storage:

Data stored on the petaLibrary in Commons, Homes, or Restricted file shares are protected each night to safeguard from most scenarios that are not system-wide. All data on the petaLibrary is mirrored, protecting from system-wide disasters or complete losses.

Groups, departments, or researchers can request access to the petaLibrary for several projects, but it will be up to the Research Office and ARCC to determine acceptable allocations of the petaLibrary. A requirement of all allocations and use of computing resources managed by ARCC , including the petaLibrary, is to acknowledge ARCC support for your research.

More information on these policies can be found at the petaLibrary Policies Wiki Page.

Software Licensing and Copyright Compliance

ARCC users must ensure that when using ARCC resources, all software is acquired and used according to appropriate licensing. Possession, use, or transmission of illegally obtained software on ARCC resources is prohibited. ARCC users shall not copy, store or transfer copyrighted software or data using ARCC resources, except as expressly permitted by the copyright owner.

Installation of software on ARCC systems must include a valid license (if applicable). No software will be installed on ARCC cluster(s) without prior proof of license eligibility. Installation of commercial or licensed software will be performed in a best effort manner. If the requirements for the software is outside the current configuration of ARCC systems, ARCC may reject the installation.

More information on this policy can be found at the Terms of Use Policy Wiki Page.
