Museum programs are designed to intrigue, challenge, and teach pre-K through 12 students, using the art museum’s current exhibitions as the basis for exploring ideas, materials, methods and more. Our model of learning – observe, question, explore, create and reflect – encourages students to dig deeper and investigate the concepts behind the artwork, while exploring the creative processes used by artists to communicate their ideas.
Under the guidance of the Master Teacher or trained teaching artists, students connect with artists, writers, and educators to explore their own responses to the exhibited artwork and the discussions that develop around the artwork. We have two studio spaces for further exploration— the Museum Classroom and Studio, located in the lower level of the Centennial Complex; and the Shelton Studio, located right next to the museum galleries— both serve as maker spaces for students to create new artwork, using a wide array of materials.
While we strive to have as many free classes as possible, costs are noted for each class. A limited number of scholarships are available to assist families with limited incomes. Museum members receive a 10% discount. Participants must submit an Information and Release form once per
