Urban Bush Women
Buchanan Center Special Events hosts the groundbreaking Black women-led theatrical
dance company and social activism ensemble Urban Bush Women performing “This Is Risk”
on Saturday, March 29, at 7:30 p.m. in the UW Arts and Sciences Auditorium.
In addition to a ticketed performance, UBW will conduct free workshops and a lecture
for the public as well as technical masterclasses for participants of the American
College Dance Association High-Desert Regional Conference hosted by the University of Wyoming Theatre and Dance.
A centerpiece of Urban Bush Women’s 40th Anniversary Celebration, “This Is Risk” looks
forward and back in celebrating four decades of operating at the vanguard of movement
and social activism. The concert takes the audience through intentional storytelling
to the next space of collective brilliance. This energetically-charged evening includes
iconic legacy works by founder Jawole Willa Jo Zollar, and a transformative dance-theater
work by Co-Artistic Directors Chanon Judson and Mame Diarra Speis. Select works feature
live music.
