Counseling Curriculum: Doctor of Philosophy

The Doctor of Philosophy in Counseling Education and Supervision is a 72 credit hour program. Full-time students can complete the degree in a three year period if they enter UW from a 60-hour approved CACREP equivalent Master’s program.
 

Advanced Foundations

Doctoral students are required to have completed a minimum of a 48-hour Master’s degree from a program of study equivalent to a CACREP accredited Master's program in Counselor Education. PhD students with a 60-hour CACREP equivalent Master’s program can petition up to 12 hours of their Master’s coursework to fulfill this requirement.

  • CNSL 5860 Doctoral Practicum in Counseling - 100 clockhours, 40 direct hours (6 credit hours)
  • CNSL 5865 Supervision Theory (3 credit hours)
  • CNSL 5875 Doctoral Practicum in Supervision (3 credit hours)

Teaching, Leadership and Advocacy

  • CNSL 5871 Doctoral Seminar I: Professional Identity and Ethics (3 credit hours)
  • CNSL 5872 Doctoral Seminar II: Diversity and Social Change (3 credit hours)
  • CNSL 5873 Doctoral Seminar III: Research, Assessment and Scholarship (3 credit hours)
  • CNSL 5874 Doctoral Seminar IV: Leadership, Consultation and Advocacy (3 credit hours)
  • CNSL 5990 Supervised Internship (600 clockhours) (6 credit hours)
