The graduate certificate in Community College Leadership provides aspiring leaders at community colleges with a 15-credit hour, focused program of study that will prepare them for more effective and efficient leadership service at their institution. The program is a Post-Masters credential, supplementing a student’s Master's degree in a discipline. Although all students must complete the 9-credit hour core (in bold print below), the remaining 6 credits may be taken from any of the remaining five courses. The courses are all delivered in a distance format (online or synchronous audio/visual) and are scheduled so the program may be completed part time over 4 semesters.

How to Apply

Persons holding a Master's degree are eligible for admission. Application deadlines for this program are September 15 (admission no earlier than the following spring), January 15 (admission no earlier than the following summer), and May 15 (admission no earlier than the following fall).

Step 1: Apply to UW and the School of Counseling, Leadership, Advocacy, and Design through the UW online applicant portal

  1. Access the UW graduate applicant portal

  2. After completing the initial information page, you will receive an email from the system including a link and your temporary username and password

  3. Please complete the contact, academic, and residency information

  4. Submit the $50 application fee

  5. Submit ALL required documents to the online document portal (applications with missing documents will not be considered)

    • Required documents for this program application (Document Guidelines)
      • Completed UW graduate application                                                      
      • Letter of interest to includes goals that relate to community college leadership
      • Current academic resume
      • Three letters of recommendation from those who are knowledgeable of your current or potential leadership skills (use the admissions portal to request your letters)
      • Upload unofficial transcripts from all postsecondary institutions (official copies should be sent to UW Admissions)
      • Agree to admissions terms and submit your application
