LGBTQ+ Employee Network

Welcome to the LGBTQIA+ Employee Network

My name is Griffen Farrar (he/him/his). I currently serve as the Residence Coordinator for Orr Hall and the Tobin House, which serves our first-generation college students. I attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln as a double major in Political Science and History with an emphasis in Chinese history. I am also the first in my family to graduate college. I arrived at UW in June of 2017 and have loved my time here so far. I am originally from the Dallas-Fort Worth area in Texas. I decided to serve as the Team Lead for the LGBTQIA+ to ensure that folks interested in working at UW knew that there was a community here in Laramie. When I was interviewing, I was lucky enough that both of my supervisors were members of the community and made sure to explain what being LGBT in Laramie was like. I remember a supervisor emailing me a story about the tutu scandal before I started and that helped cement my desire to come to Wyoming. I want to be that person for folks who are considering a job here in Laradise.

Information about the Employee Network

The LGBTQIA+ Employee Network is a group of staff and faculty who identify within the community. Over the course of the semester, we will connect through a couple social nights and a professional development activity. I want to make this group a body of people that act as a resource for each other both professionally and personally. I envision this group being a community of folks that have similar experiences and can serve as a sounding board, mentor, and friend to one another.

When I first arrived in Laramie, I had no idea of the vibrant LGBT community that was present not only at the university, but throughout the state. I want to make sure that this community is a known body and that folks who might be considering the university as a place of employment know that they are not alone here in Laramie. Should you have any questions please do not hesitate to reach out via email to gfarrar1@uwyo.edu or via phone at 6-2539. I am very excited to see what this group develops into in the coming months and the friendships that will be built.

LGBTQIA+ First Event

For our first event we got together in the union to connect and start to get to know each other. Bagels and fruit was provided and 13 people came and shared the space for about an hour. We were able to begin talking about what we hoped the group would become over the next year, but it was very informal as the holidays were approaching.

Welcome Back BBQ

February 12, 2020 5:30-7:00 p.m.

Dickey’s Barbeque Pit

For our first event of the semester, we had a welcome back BBQ at Dickeys BBQ Pit. We were able to connect and see how folks were doing after the holiday as well as talk through the plan for the rest of the semester. The folks that were able to attend had a fun time and it was good to connect with friends that we do not get to see often throughout our day jobs. We spent about an hour and a half chatting, eating and connecting with colleagues from across campus.
