Christi Carter Biography

Christi Carter has worked in the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at the University of Wyoming as the Diversity Analyst, Recruitment and Training Facilitator since January 2019 and brings many experiences including financial services, administration, equitable hiring practices, and compliance to UW.


She is a graduate of Bowling Green State University in Ohio, a voice scholarship recipient, and studied under Metropolitan Opera Soprano Professor Myra Merritt-Grant. Christi made her operatic debut in Cavalli’s Gli amori d’Apollo e di Dafne, a North American premiere conducted by Paul Odette. Her professional operatic debut was in Monteverdi’s Il ritorno d’ulisse in patria at Chicago Opera Theater. She would go on to appear in John Adams A Flowering Tree and in Handel’s Orlando with the same company. She has had the privilege to work with Marilyn Horne, Jane Glover, Raymond Leppard, John Adams and many more distinguished professionals in the field.


When Christi left the operatic scene, she went to work in the private sector and gained experience in finance, management, human resources, and administration. After years in the private sector, she joined higher education to be able to give back to others what has been given to her by way of mentorship, outreach, role models, leadership, training, and community service. She is currently in the MPA program here at UW.


  • She currently manages and provides support for Employee Networks
  • She provides EEO support and oversight for academic and administrative hires including all direct hires
  • She conducts the mandatory search committee workshops for academic and administrative hires
  • Coordinates participation in the National Institute of Teaching and Mentoring for recruitment of minority PhD scholars
  • Coordinates ODEI’s onboarding packet for new employees
  • Presents on ODEI and EORR for new employee orientation
  • She managed and led the Self-Id Campaign in 2019 and will do so for subsequent years
  • Oversees the creation of the Affirmative Action Plan and coordinates activities for Affirmative Action planning for UW
  • Cultivates relationships with external agencies and associations in support of employment ie; Department of Vocational Rehabilitation, WYAPSE, Veteran Affairs and others.
