Libraries Materials

The collections and materials at the University of Wyoming Libraries are curated to support the research, teaching, and learning needs of the university community. Spanning a wide range of disciplines, the Libraries' holdings include print and electronic books, academic journals, government documents, media resources, and unique archival materials. Special collections provide access to rare and historical documents that are invaluable for scholarly inquiry. 

Digital Collections

UW Libraries is home to several digital repositories, including various digital collections, research data, and scholarly outputs. 

  • Wyoming Data Repository (WDR): A research data management system for the University of Wyoming and all Wyoming Community Colleges
  • WyoScholar Digital Repository: An open-access repository of student publications, open educational resources, open-access faculty publications, and other forms of gray literature.
  • Wyoming Newspaper Collection: Historic Wyoming Newspapers from every county in Wyoming from 1849 to the present.

Emmett D. Chisum Special Collections

Emmett D. Chisum Special Collections primarily holds printed publications related to the American West from the late 19th century to the present.

  • The Grace Raymond Hebard Collection: The most comprehensive collection of published materials about Wyoming history, culture and natural history.
  • The Canoso Miniature Book Collection: This collection includes books smaller than 3 inches by 3 inches as well as a selection of artists' books.
  • The Historic Clothing Collection: Consisting of both books and clothing magazines, the historic clothing collection also includes books on costumes and the history of undergarments.

Media Collections

UW Libraries offers access to both physical and streaming media.

  • Videos: DVD/Blu-Ray collection of over 23,000 titles suitable for kindergarten through adult audiences. The collection features educational titles, as well as award-winning theatrical films and television series.
  • CD-ROMs: Discs containing electronic files, primarily published by the Federal Government.
  • Streaming Media: Video and audio available through UW Libraries databases.

Creation + Collaboration Spaces

Coe Student Innovation Center

The 2500-square-foot CSIC makerspace serves to provide a central introductory hub for students interested in creative, collaborative, innovative projects. The equipment in the CSIC supports 3D printing and scanning; sewing, embroidery, and vinyl cutting; large format printing; on-site repairs with tools for check out; virtual reality exploration; laptops with CAD and modeling software; and robotics equipment for K-12 instruction.

Digital Inquiry, Visualization, and Exploration

 

The Digital Inquiry, Visualization, and Exploration (DIVE) team supports digital scholarship, data, and innovative technologies at UW Libraries. We provide services, instruction, and research support in areas such as data management, digital storytelling, computing, digital humanities, multimedia creation, and more. Whether you’re starting a new project or exploring a new tool, we’re here to help!

 
We offer consultations, collaborate on research initiatives, and lead regular workshops through the Digital Scholarship Center and Studio Coe. 
 
Studio Coe is a staffed multimedia lab where you can use Adobe programs (Photoshop, Illustrator, Animate), game development and virtual reality software (Visual Studio Code, Unity, Blender), as well as video and audio editing programs (iMovie, Audition, Premiere) for free. The staff at Studio Coe can help with questions and/or help guide you through a new program. Studio Coe does not require appointments or reservations for the use of the software except for the audio-recording space and the video-recording space. Reservations are available for the sound-proof audio-recording space for two hours at a time.

Digital Scholarship Center, as part of UW Libraries, aims to assist the University of Wyoming community as they extend traditional methods of research and teaching using new media and digital technologies. By providing expertise, technology, and space for these endeavors, Digital Scholarship will support faculty, staff, and students as they become more digital, entrepreneurial, interdisciplinary, and inclusive.

Student Learning Commons

Located on Level 1 of Coe Library, the Student Learning Commons (SLC) is a centralized, one-stop academic support network designed for UW students. The space offers a dynamic and inclusive learning environment, combining physical resources, technology, expert assistance, and collaborative spaces. The space contains the following:

  • STEP Tutor Center: Featuring one-on-one and small group tutoring for more than 50 high-challenge classes, including engineering, math, science, and social science subjects. Available in-person and online.

  • Writing Center: The Writing Center helps students, faculty and staff become more effective and confident writers. They can assist at all stages of the writing process, from brainstorming to revising a final draft. Writing Center consultations are available in-person, online and asynchronously. 

  • Supplemental Instruction (SI): Advanced student leaders use the Learning Commons to hold out-of-class study and skill-building sessions for 30+ high-challenge courses. SI leaders attend class, work with professors and lead weekly sessions. Available in-person and online.

  • Convertible presentation space: Located in the center of the Learning Commons, this flexible space allows for larger presentations and workshops supporting student engagement and academic success.

  • The Boardroom: Designed for small groups of students to meet and innovate, the Boardroom space offers a comfortable, technology-supported hub for student projects, presentations, and group tutoring.

  • Coe Library Room 121: Workshop and targeted meeting space for student success and research sessions, learning communities' programming, hybrid tutoring and writing assistance, and supplemental instruction sessions.

  • Media Screening Room: Located in Coe Library Room 123, the media screening room is for the viewing of film, television and other multimedia content to facilitate learning at UW.
