MBA Consulting Examples

	Two projects were completed with Black Hills Energy for the summer of 2016. The first projected centered on the Rapid City community’s readiness for an influx of 100+ relocating professionals and covered the interdependencies of business, community leaders, governmental officials, and other large businesses. The second project centered on alternative energy and the disruption that those technologies can cause to BHC’s core business.
	Students researched historical refinery data and performed analysis of how refiners cope with periods of significant price fluctuations in crude oil to develop a plan on how independent refiners should handle price run-ups and downs to minimize the financial impact.
	Students researched the cost of operation for offshore environments to create benchmarks and identify opportunities to improve overall unit cost in order to stay competitive in low oil price environments.
	Students created a business plan based on current board-approved organizational strategies formulated on their own research. The business plan included an overall scope of work, expected benefits, potential risks, financial analysis, and linkage to the organization’s strategic goals as well as to industry best practices.
	Students performed an in-depth analysis of the costs that utility companies incur and then pass on to the commercial consumer. Incurred costs assessed were comprehensive, including substations, transformers, etc.
	Students performed analysis to create internal benchmarks for assessing and ranking client productivity and profitability. Within the analysis, opportunities were identified for increasing client profitability with emphasis on client caregiver scheduling optimization.
