UW Alumni


Launched in 1895 with eight alumni, the UWAA is proud of its long history of keeping alumni connected to the university and offering a wide array of opportunities for service. With a membership of 17,000 people, the alumni association serves as an important connection to the university for the 130,000 alumni around the world.


The UW Decision

Recent Department of Agriculture and Applied Economics graduate Perry Baptista says attending UW was one of the best decisions she ever made.

When Perry Baptista of Elizabeth, Colo., chose the University of Wyoming, little did she know the journey would include travel to nine European countries, the opportunity to serve as director of the ACRES Student Farm, a second-place dance team win in the Intercollegiate Swing Battle and much more.

Shauna Smith

Shauna Smith - 2005

First NCAA track and field champion at UW

A five-time All-American who set several UW records in track and field, Shauna Smith was the first individual outdoor track-and-field NCAA champion from the University of Wyoming, in 2005. She set the Mountain West Conference record for the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 54.32 seconds.

Smith also won the 60-meter hurdles at the 2004 Mountain West Conference Indoor Championships. She was the first hurdler in Cowgirl history to earn All-American honors.

Smith currently resides in San Diego, California.

From Football Star to Fighter Pilot

This past fall, U.S. Air Force Major Rich Peace—an F-16 Fighting Falcon pilot, 100th Expeditionary Fighter Squadron, deployed to Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan—sent a video message shoutout to the Cowboy Nation that was picked up by news outlets around Wyoming. Peace graduated from the University of Wyoming in 1997 with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. During his time at UW, he played on the football and track teams, earning five letters.
