A new partnership to support the Associated Students of the University of Wyoming's (ASUW) Safe Ride program will expand the service year round beginning in July.
Joining UW in the program are WyoTech, the Coalition to Prevent Substance Abuse (CoSPA) and Laramie GM Auto Center.
Safe Ride, a program started by ASUW in 2000, is a free public transportation system designed to provide safe and reliable transportation within the Laramie city limits.
With the new partnership, funds will be allocated to create a new full-time staff position to coordinate ASUW's transportation programs. Applications are now being accepted, says Matt Caires, UW assistant dean of students. Safe Ride has operated the last eight years with oversight from UW student employees.
"We are extremely excited to begin this new formal partnership among ASUW, WyoTech, CoSPA and Laramie GM Auto Center," says David Kiren, former ASUW president. "Safe Ride provides safe and reliable late-night transportation in the city of Laramie and this new partnership will allow us to grow this program to meet our needs in the future."
