One of the University of Wyoming's most successful policy debaters, Travis Cram, is the new director of UW's debate team.
Cram has accepted an appointment as lecturer and director of forensics in the UW Department of Communication and Journalism. He replaces Matt Stannard, who leaves the position after 11 years to attend law school.
A 2008 UW graduate, Cram was for two years an assistant coach for the national champion University of Kansas. As a debater while attending Cheyenne East High School, he qualified for the prestigious Tournament of Champions.
At UW, Cram was the ninth seed at the 2008 National Debate Tournament his senior year, when he also won the Weber State University Round Robin and was on two district championship teams.
The UW debate team travels nationally to 15-20 intercollegiate tournaments each academic year. UW is a member of the Cross Examination Debate Association, the National Debate Tournament, the National Parliamentary Debate Association and the National Parliamentary Tournament of Excellence (NPTE). The team also hosts on-campus events including public debates, intercollegiate tournaments and high school and college summer workshops.
