Healthy Body Image Promoted at UW

Events promoting positive and healthy body image will be offered during Body Image Awareness Week Feb. 22-March 2 at the University of Wyoming.

Connie Sobczak, the co-founder and executive/creative director of The Body Positive, will be the keynote speaker at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 1, in the Wyoming Union Ballroom. The Body Positive was founded to "teach people of all ages the common sense tools and creative strategies necessary to become free from body hatred and self-destructive eating and exercise behaviors."

Christina Brokenkamp, from the Eating Disorder Center of Denver, will discuss body image and the media from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 28, in the Wyoming Union Family room.

 Among other highlights are:

Thursday, Feb. 23, noon-1 p.m. -- The student organization, Beauty, will present a panel discussion on college students and body image, Wyoming Union Senate Chambers.

Monday, Feb. 27, 5:30-6:30 p.m. -- Zeta Phi Beta sorority presents a program, "Cultural Influences on Body Image," in the Wyoming Union West Ballroom.

Friday, March 2, noon-1 p.m. -- Kristin McTigue, a registered dietitian and family and consumer sciences instructor, will discuss the nutritional management of eating disorders, Wyoming Union Room 002.
