Award-winning pianist and composer Eric Reed opens the University of Wyoming Cultural Programs spring concert series Tuesday, Feb. 14, at 7:30 p.m. in the UW Fine Arts concert hall. Tickets cost $20 for adults and $15 for students and senior citizens.
Reed began playing the piano at age 2 and was performing in his father's Baptist church in Philadelphia by age 5. After studying at Philadelphia's Settlement Music School and Los Angeles' Colburn School of Arts, Reed embarked upon a professional career that has taken him all over the world. His credits include Wynton Marsalis, Jessye Norman, Quincy Jones and Patti Labelle.
He has taught at The Juilliard School of Music and gives master classes and lecture demonstrations on the history of music. His other musical ventures include more than 20 recordings as a leader, including his latest recording, "The Dancing Monk"; scoring for Eddie Murphy's comedy, "Life"; and musical direction for the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater.
Reed will perform with the UW Jazz Ensemble Thursday, Feb. 16, at 7:30 p.m. in the College of Arts & Sciences auditorium. Tickets cost $7.50 for adults and $5.50 for students and senior citizens. Tickets are available at https://www.uwyo.edu/finearts/ or by calling (307) 766-6666.
