Applications are being accepted now for the University of Wyoming’s newest study abroad program in Kenya.
The course, "Beyond Images of a Continent, Old and New: Exploring African Cultures in Kenya," is open to UW students, faculty and staff, and the public. Tentatively set for May 18-30, the course is limited to 15 participants, and early enrollment is recommended.
Course instructor Gatua wa Mbugwa says the course consists of two phases -- a cultural and a tourism phase. The cultural phase exposes students to Kenyan life and explores historical archives at the national museum.
In the tourism phase, students will visit various national parks and wildlife reservations teeming with Kenya’s diverse wildlife.
“This course is unique, in that students get to travel with an instructor from Kenya who speaks several of the local languages and interacts well with people of all walks of life,” says Mbugwa.
The UW Synergy Program and the Department of Geography sponsor this opportunity.
Scholarships may be available. For scholarship information, call the UW International Programs Study Abroad Office at (307) 766-6681. For information related to the course, email Mbugwa at firstname.lastname@example.org.
