UW political science student Morgan Miller from Cheyenne will serve an internship
with U.S. Sen. Mike Enzi.
Morgan Miller of Cheyenne, a graduating senior in political science and participant in the University of Wyoming Student Success Services (SSS) program, will serve an internship with U.S. Sen. Mike Enzi’s Washington, D.C., office during the spring 2013 semester. The internship will include administrative, legislative and constituent services.
As a Cheyenne resident, Miller has been immersed in politics and state history. Her background and interest in politics inspired her to apply for the internship.
“I look forward to living in D.C. I’ve visited once before, but I’m really excited to live in the city,” she says. “I look forward to conducting tours and going to the Senate.”
Miller will conduct research for Sen. Enzi, attend congressional hearings and respond to constituents. She says she is optimistic for the future, especially the opportunities D.C. will bring. She wants to work on state or national political campaigns.
Miller says she learned of the internship opportunity through UW’s Department of Political Science. She had applied for an in-state internship before, but wasn’t chosen. Her previous application experience and the support and advice of her SSS adviser, Rita Burleson, prepared her to write an effective essay and obtain letters of recommendation. Miller thanked Burelson for her continued support.
As Miller learned, persistence does pay off. Her tip to students: “Keep trying. If you don’t get it the first time, try again.”
