Wei Guo, a cellist student in the University of Wyoming Department of Music, is one of five finalists selected from string players across the United States who will compete in the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) Young Artist Competition in March in Anaheim, Calif.

Guo won the Northwest Regional Young Artist Competition, a prestigious competition sponsored by the MTNA. Representing Wyoming, she competed against the best college string players from Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Montana.

“Wei is a tremendous talent who plays with real passion and integrity,” says her professor, Beth Vanderborgh. "She will be a wonderful ambassador from the University of Wyoming at the national competition. It is an incredible honor to compete at the national level. I hope she wins.”

Guo is principal cellist of the UW Symphony Orchestra. Her trip to the regional competition was funded, in part, by the UW Symphony Association.
