Internationally renowned flutist Göran Marcusson will perform at the University of Wyoming Monday, April 4, at 7:30 p.m. in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts recital hall.

Theresa Bogard, UW professor of piano, will join Marcusson in the free concert, part of the UW Department of Music’s Faculty Recital Series. They will play classic romantic duos, various solos from the baroque and modern periods, and assorted Swedish pieces.

Marcusson, a Swedish native, made his debut in the United States in 1987 when he won first prize in the National Flute Association’s Young Artist Competition. In 1992, he earned his soloist diploma from Sweden’s Music Conservatory of Gothenburg. That same year, he received many other awards for his talent and performances.

His first album, “The Swedish Romantic Flute,” was widely praised. That led Marcusson to record, among others, “The Nordic Flute” and “American Sonatas.”

Marcusson has played with numerous orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra Cadaques and Gothenburg Opera Orchestra.

He currently is the principal flutist with the Gothenburg Wind Orchestra.

The UW Department of Music, Wyoming Arts Council and Miyazawa Flutes sponsor Marcusson’s visit.
