UW Trustees Designate McGinity President Emeritus

The University of Wyoming Board of Trustees voted unanimously Thursday to designate outgoing President Dick McGinity as UW president emeritus, while setting the stage for him to return to the faculty of the College of Business.

With the appointment of Laurie Nichols as the university’s president beginning May 16, McGinity will leave the office that day. He will serve May 16-20 as special adviser to the president, to consult as needed with Nichols. He then will return to the faculty as a full professor in the College of Business’s Department of Management and Marketing beginning with the 2016-17 academic year.

In voting to designate McGinity as president emeritus and approve the terms of a letter of agreement between him and the university, the Board of Trustees expressed “deep feelings of gratitude and appreciation for all the services President McGinity provided, particularly at a time when those services were really needed.”

McGinity began his work as UW’s 25th president in January 2014. The board’s search for a new president came at his recommendation in 2015.

His appointment in the College of Business is a half-time academic year position with a salary of $99,996. However, for the 2016-17 academic year only, the position will be a three-quarters-time appointment -- half time for the fall semester, and full time for the spring semester. So, the salary for that year will be $149,988.
