Diversity Activist to Speak April 8 at UW Shepard Symposium

Mohammed Bilal

Musician and poet Mohammed Bilal will speak Friday, April 8, at 9 p.m. in the University of Wyoming Union Ballroom as part of the Shepard Symposium on Social Justice.

Bilal, the executive director of the African American Art and Culture Complex in San Francisco, travels around the world, educating others on current social and diversity issues. He also promotes diversity awareness through hip-hop. He has collaborated with artists such as Santana, Public Enemy and Ben Harper.

Bilal earned his master’s degree in diversity studies.

Friday Night Fever sponsors the free public lecture.

An annual event at UW since 1997, the Shepard Symposium on Social Justice seeks to engage participants in discussion and analyses of strategies and actions that can eliminate social inequality.
