UW Offers Negotiated Gas Rate to Employees and Retirees

The University of Wyoming is offering employees and retirees an opportunity to choose the negotiated natural gas rate under the Choice Gas program. Employees who have not selected a supplier and rate have until 10 p.m. Thursday, April 28, to sign up for the special UW rate.

UW negotiated the special natural gas rate with Wyoming Producer-Consumer Alliance, one of eight suppliers selling gas under the Choice Gas program. The residential rate is being offered to employees in Source Gas' Casper Division, which includes Laramie and Casper, but not Cheyenne and Torrington.

“The negotiated UW employee option is a market index rate, which is the monthly gas price, as listed on the CIG Index, with a $0.04/therm adder,” says Frosty Selmer, deputy director at the Physical Plant in charge of utilities. For example, the CIG index cost for February 2016 is $0.20/therm, which would put the billing at $0.24/therm for all of the therms used for the month. This price does not include the distribution charges added to all options, usually $0.20-$0.23 per therm.

Employees should keep in mind that the UW option might not be the most economical. UW also may elect to lock in a fixed rate per therm, at a later date, if warranted.

For current UW employees and retirees who want to sign up for the negotiated market index rate, Wyoming Producer-Consumer Alliance offers three registration options:

-- Or by mail using your Choice Gas Supplier Selection Form, check the “Market Index Rate Plus Pipeline Charges (1 Year)” under Wyoming Producer-Consumer Alliance, sign, date and mail it back in the envelope provided.

To register, you will need to have your account number, control number and confirmation number 95168 available. Please note, Choice Gas forms will not be accepted at the UW Service Building.
