UW Ph.D. Students Win National Society for Range Management Awards

Two Ph.D. students in the University of Wyoming College of Agriculture and Natural Resources earned first-place honors at the recent 2016 Society for Range Management annual meeting in Corpus Christi, Texas.

Kristen Gunther, of Fallston, Md., won first in the Ph.D. student poster competition for “Approaches for Communicating Rangeland Science: Results from Statewide and National Surveys.”

Kurt Smith, Troy, Pa., won first in Ph.D. oral paper presentations for “Effects of Mowing and Herbicide Treatments on the Nutritional Quality of Sagebrush in Central Wyoming.”

The Society for Range Management (SRM) is the professional scientific society and conservation organization whose members are concerned with studying, conserving, managing and sustaining the varied resources of the world’s rangelands. Each year, the SRM hosts competitions for the best oral paper and poster paper presentations at the master’s and Ph.D. levels.

Established in 1948, SRM has more than 4,000 members in 48 countries, including many developing nations.
