Wyoming Wildlife Foundation to Auction Bison License to Benefit UW Art Museum

The Wyoming Wildlife Foundation (WWF) will auction a hard-to-get bison hunting license to benefit the University of Wyoming Art Museum starting June 26 and ending July 5.

The UW Art Museum applied for the seller license in April and was one of the five nonprofit organizations selected to receive the award in early May.

The public is encouraged to preregister for auction access on the WWF website at wyomingwildlifefoundation.org/commissioner-licenses/. When the online auction goes live, registrants will need to specify that they are bidding on the UW Art Museum’s license.

The minimum bid set by the WWF to win the bison license is $4,500. Thirty percent of proceeds from the auction will go to the UW Art Museum’s Gala Funds, which provides significant program dollars for the Art Museum exhibitions, collections, education and outreach. The remaining proceeds will go to the Wyoming Governor’s Big Game License Coalition to be used for wildlife conservation projects around the state.

Bison hunting in Wyoming takes place near Jackson on mostly state-owned land, national forest land and the National Elk Refuge. The limited-quota hunt allows for a harvest of about 300 bison during a season that runs from mid-August to early January.

Through its “Museum as Classroom” approach, the UW Art Museum places art at the center of learning for all ages. Located in the Centennial Complex at 2111 Willett Drive in Laramie, the museum is open Mondays through Saturdays from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday hours are extended to 7 p.m. February through April and September through November.
