Activities Planned for International Education Week at UW

A series of events is scheduled at the University of Wyoming during International Education Week Nov. 13-18, ranging from presentations on education abroad, the Peace Corps and international alternative breaks to a belly dance workshop and dance competition.

The activities are sponsored by UW’s Global Engagement Office, which includes the newly renamed Education Abroad Office, the International Students and Scholars Office, and the English Language Center. All members of the UW community and the public are invited.

Events scheduled are:

Monday, Nov. 13

-- 11 a.m.-1 p.m.: Country display tables, Wyoming Union breezeway. Sponsored by the International Students Association and the International Students and Scholars Office.

-- 3-4 p.m.: “Travel Hacks: Here and Abroad,” a chance to learn about great tech and travel hacks to help you in your travels across the United States and abroad, Room 129 of the Cheney International Center. Sponsored by the Education Abroad Office.

Tuesday, Nov. 14

-- Noon-1 p.m.: “Peace Corps: Now and Then,” a chance to learn about current Peace Corps opportunities and hear from a former Peace Corps volunteer, Room 129 of the Cheney International Center. Sponsored by the Education Abroad Office.

-- 5-8 p.m.: Showing of the movie “Girl Rising,” with a moderated discussion to follow, Wyoming Union East Ballroom. Sponsored by the International Students Association and the International Students and Scholars Office.

Wednesday, Nov. 15

-- Noon-1 p.m.: “Education Abroad 101,” for those interested in studying, interning or volunteering abroad who are not sure how to start, Room 129 of the Cheney International Center. Sponsored by the Education Abroad Office.

-- 5-7 p.m.: Belly dance workshop taught by Dilnoza, Wyoming Union Skylight Lounge. Sponsored by the International Students Association and the International Students and Scholars Office.

Thursday, Nov. 16

-- Noon-4 p.m.: Drop-in open house, with pizza and pumpkin pie served, in the IRC Lounge, located in the basement of the Cheney International Center. Sponsored by the English Language Center.

-- 4:30 p.m.: An International Photo Contest reception, where winners will be announced, Cheney International Center atrium. Refreshments will be served. Sponsored by the Education Abroad Office.

-- 5-7 p.m.: Service project, with participants gathering in the Wyoming Union breezeway. Sponsored by the International Students Association and the International Students and Scholars Office.

Friday, Nov. 17

-- Noon-1 p.m.: International alternative break panel, featuring students sharing their personal alternative break experiences and how they have made an impact on a global scale, Room 129 of the Cheney International Center. Lunch will be served. Co-sponsored by the Service, Leadership and Community Engagement and Education Abroad offices.

-- 8-11 p.m.: International Night, including dance competitions, other performances, food and other activities, Wyoming Union Skylight Lounge/Gardens. Sponsored by the International Students Association and the International Students and Scholars Office.

Saturday, Nov. 18

-- 6 p.m.: International Etiquette Dinner, with a Latin America theme, Wyoming Union Ballroom. Information about etiquette and mealtime traditions will be shared, and there will be more performances. Free tickets are required and will be available through the Wyoming Union information desk Nov. 15-17 starting at 11 a.m. until gone. Sponsored by the International Students Association and the International Students and Scholars Office.
