Nominations are now being accepted for the third annual Own It! Awards for women in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) at the University of Wyoming. The deadline is Friday, March 23.
Winners who have made contributions to the STEM fields will be honored during the Own It! Awards ceremony Wednesday, April 4, in the Michael B. Enzi STEM Facility.
Researchers are nominated for their outstanding scientific and scholarly achievements. Many will receive awards in categories for undergraduate and graduate students, STEM professionals, pre-tenured and tenured faculty members, and community members.
Awards nomination criteria are developed by Wyoming EPSCoR (Established Program to Stimulate Competitive Research) and partners. Nominations are for women who exemplify the following:
-- A woman student, STEM professional, faculty or community member who has made significant contributions to her field of research.
-- A woman who demonstrates service, leadership and mentoring among her peer group.
-- A woman who inspires teaching and learning among her community.
-- And, a woman who is deserving of celebration.
“We will honor the work of women in STEM from across campus as well as within the community of Laramie,” says Emily Vercoe, Wyoming EPSCoR education, outreach and diversity coordinator. “This recognition helps to increase the visibility of an often-overlooked group in STEM, which can be fundamental in encouraging young women to participate in science.”
