In Lieu of a Research Paper: An Annotated Bibliography of Chaucer Criticism
Using
standard scholarly bibliographies of English
criticism (MLA, JSTOR, Project MUSE, etc.), prepare a list of 14 articles and/or
chapters in books dealing with various aspects of Chaucers life and works,
concentrating on the tale on which you are due to report in your Chaucer
Roundtable presentation. Consult
also the resources in our textbook.
Online see:
The
Chaucer Bibliography at the University of Texas, San
Antonio.
The
Chaucer Metpage at the University of North Carolina.
The
Index of Bibliographical Resources at Geoffrey.Chaucer.org
The
Archives of the Chaucer Review at Johns Hopkins.
Read a selection of the
critical works you have chosen.
Choose half of them (seven) on which to provide a synopsis and critical
assessment of at least 150 words per entry.
Compile these in an annotated bibliography according to standard
bibliographic style. See the
helpful website at Cornell University which
suggests APA style of reference. In
the humanities we more often use
Modern Language
Association (MLA) or
Chicago
Manual of Style bibliographical format.
See the
specimen of
Chicago style citation.
Your grade will be determined
by the quality of your annotation and the critical acumen you show in assessing
each entry.
Due in class, Thursday, 26
April 2012.
