Design Questions

Are there new templates for the new UW Brand design?

Yes, there are numerous templates for brochures, publications, newsletters, direct mailers, PowerPoint presentations and more! Brand resources and design elements can be found in our Marketing Resources. If you require a specific template and you do not see it in the folder, please use our Project Request Form to request development of a new template.

I see the UW Signature has changed. Do I need to throw out current materials with the old signature?

Especially given current economic conditions, please do not discard any current materials. However, please download the new UW Signature and apply to all new materials.

Are we allowed to adjust the UW Brand Bar?

No, the UW Brand Bar may not be altered. Upon request, the Institutional Marketing department will provide you with an individualized Brand Bar that lists your College, Department or Unit name. Contact information will not be included in the Brand Bar.

Where do I find all the provided resources to work within the UW Brand Standards? And what if I cannot find the resources I need?

Why can't I design whatever I want for my department?

UW is a large, influential community therefore making it imperative that all UW units maintain a consistent brand identity and messaging to ensure the longevity of the greater UW brand. UW units may certainly maintain a level of individuality within the greater UW brand, but must support the whole community. For a marketing or branding consultation, please contact us.

Photo Database Questions

How do I get my requested images from the new UPR Photo Database?

To request access to our Photo Database, please contact the Help Desk, 766-4357.

Once you have access to the photo database and you have successfully requested photos from our photo database website, you will need to retrieve your photos from your cart, by going to the folder with your username: (For example, we'll use Cowboy Joe, for the example below)

  • Windows users: \\warehouse\uprphoto$\upr\users\cowboyj
  • Mac users: smb://$/upr/users/cowboyj
  • It takes about 5 minutes for these processed photographs to be copied to your folder after the order is complete.

Any user off campus can access their folder by going to Once logged in, paste the Windows folder path location into the browse field in the upper right section. You will see a list of folder content, if any. You can download the images to your computer. Also click on the Bookmark Folder icon in the upper right side. This will allow you to pin the folder to your Wyosecure home page so you don’t have to paste the folder path in the Browse field in the future.

What if we cannot find photos on the UW Photo Database that meet our needs? May we use our own personal photos?

Yes. However, we do require that all personal photos are sent to for review and a UW Photo Release, which can be obtained from Photo Service, accompanies the photo. Review of personal photos and a release is our only way of maintaining quality, and ensures the use of personal photos is protected with the UW Photo Release. Additionally, Photo Services can conduct a photo shoot of your unit. Please contact them directly to make an appointment.

Where do I go for help and support with the Content Management System (CMS) and the Photo Database?

How do I gain access to the CMS?

The first step will be to complete the Web Content Management System -Level 1 course. You will not be granted access to the CMS or your site until you have completed this course. The course is free, and you can register via the link above.

How do I know what templates to use in the CMS or what brand elements are available and how to use them?

All units must adhere to the Website Style Guide, consistent with the UW Brand Standards Manual.

Officially branded templates are available to UW website managers.   These templates are assigned for your use when your site is created within the university CMS.  Please use the Website Style Guide to determine the best use of these templates to deliver your content, photos, and video.
