Interstate Passport is a new way for students to transfer courses from one institution to another. By earning a Passport, your lower-division general education courses will transfer as a block, rather than individually, to other Network member institutions where they will meet all or nearly all of the receiving school’s lower-division general education requirements.
Students who complete thier Passport will not be required to repeat or take additional course work to meet lower division general education requirements in the Passport's nine areas when they tranfer to any other Passport institution. Click here to find more information on the Interstate Passport.
The Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE) is an agreement among WICHE’s 16 member states and territories, through which 160+ participating public colleges and universities provide steep nonresident tuition savings for Western students.
Through WUE, eligible students can choose from hundreds of undergraduate programs outside their home state, and pay no more than 150 percent of that institution’s resident tuition rate.
Since full nonresident college-tuition rates may exceed 300 percent of resident rates, WUE increases affordable higher-education choices for students, and minimizes the adverse impacts of student loan debt.
WICHE operates three Student Access Programs that together saved 45,000+ students $451+ million in 2019-20. Each program supports one of three educational niches: undergraduate, graduate, and professional health care studies.
Details that govern each program vary, but–by lowering the cost of tuition–they share a common approach. Students gain from increased choice and savings. Schools gain by optimizing enrollments. And states gain by growing the skills of those they serve and strengthening their workforce. It’s a true “triple-win."
Since 1953, WICHE has been strengthening higher education, workforce development, and behavioral health throughout the region. As an interstate compact, WICHE partners with states, territories, and postsecondary institutions to share knowledge, create resources, and develop innovative solutions that address some of our society’s most pressing needs. Select a WICHE state or territory on the map to explore individual highlights of our long-standing partnerships.
