Matthew Shepard Memorial curriculum planning memo
To:Laramie high school and college teachers
Dear instructor,
This year, 2018, marks the twentieth remembrance of Matthew Shepard’s murder. The
University of Wyoming, Laramie High School, Laramie County Community College, City
of Laramie, the Conspirare Choral Ensemble, and many other campus and community partners
are collaborating to plan events and activities to honor Matt’s memory and continue
efforts to strengthen compassion and inclusivity in our community for LGBTQ+ and all
social identities. As part of this wider effort, our planning group has developed
a compendium of activities, texts, and resources for educators who are interested
in fostering discussion and reflection around Matthew’s story. We will post information
soon about an online discussion forum. Please also share these ideas with educators
in your circle who may appreciate these materials,
Sincerely,
The Matthew Shepard Memorial planning team
