Using Facebook in the Classroom: Outlaw or Educational Tool This session will present research on Facebook and its' use in the K-12 classroom as well as the legal, ethical and moral issue when using Facebook. The image of Facebook as the outlaw such as Jesse James has received primarily negative press due to privacy, safety, and attitudes towards revealing personal information to the world. Emphasis on K-12 educators with information and knowledge on positive uses of Facebook AS a tool for learning, rather than only AS a social interaction tool. Educators will view the idea of a school-based social networking site as a constructive and practical learning environment.

Universal Design for LearningUniversal Design for Learning [UDL] is an approach to constructing learning experiences that are usable by everyone. Based on neuroscience research, UDL defines three major principles that translate into many teaching practices supporting all learners, without special accommodations. Many of the educational technologies featured at e-Volution embody UDL principles. We will provide an introduction to the framework, with examples.

Training Internal Staff using Second Life In 2011, the University of Wyoming's Small Business Development Center (SBDC) \decided to conduct part of its annual retreat in Second Life. A basic learner assessment revealed that the staff's ability to successfully participate in and produce work in this environment was low to non-existent. This presentation focuses on the experience of training internal staff how to use Second Life, in preparation for the retreat sessions. A strategy of modeling, then inducing performance, was used as a pedagogical focus. The project demonstrated positive, self-reported and observed learning outcomes.

Using Voki's in Online Teaching Educators who use the online environment to teach are continually striving to engage students in learning. With the multi-generational student population, the use of the Pearson LearningStudio tools combined with a variety of content delivery methods such as blogs, wikis, podcasts, videocasts, and vokis, today's educators can increase the connectivity they have with online students. Educators have the ability to also reach students who have a variety of learning styles. With the help of a Course Redesign Grant from the ETCL, the use of instructional vokis was implemented in an online Nursing Leadership course.
