Progress and Milestones


WYCOLA 2018

The inaugural Wyoming Coaching Laboratory (WYCOLA) cohort launched in June 2018. WYCOLA is a year-long intensive professional development experience for future and current educators and instructional coaches. The WYCOLA experience provides participating educators and educator candidates the opportunity to observe and reflect on teaching to inform their own practice and support peers, while providing direct service to middle school students.

February 14, 2018: UW Board of Trustees approves TEI Innovation Proposal for Wyoming Early Childhood Outreach Network (WyECON)

On February 14, 2018, the University of Wyoming Board of Trustees approved the pilot implementation of TEI Proposal 2017-08 - WyECON, the Wyoming Early Childhood Outreach Network (WyECON), an organizing body to provide high-quality field experience options, to make existing professional development opportunities available to all early childhood (EC) educators, and to create a degree pathway into the University of Wyoming system. The overarching goals are to support a highly qualified EC workforce in the state, to overcome limited access to early childhood education excellence due to economic hurdles related to traditionally low compensation and higher education degree or workforce credential attainment, and to elevate early childhood care scopes of service.

January 19, 2018: UW Board of Trustees approves TEI Innovation Proposal for Wyoming Coaching Laboratory (WY-COLA)

On January 19, 2018, the University of Wyoming Board of Trustees approved the pilot implementation of TEI Proposal 2017-11, the Wyoming Coaching Laboratory (WY-COLA), a professional educator professional development model for pre-service teachers and Wyoming professional educators, including Wyoming instructional coaches and instructional facilitators. WY-COLA will be piloted beginning Summer 2018. The Board of Trustees action was in response to a recommendation from the Trustees Education Initiative Governing Board.

November 16, 2017: UW Board of Trustees approves three TEI Innovation Proposals for implementation:

The University of Wyoming Board of Trustees has approved the following three additional TEI innovation proposals for implementation.

  • Proposal 2017-05:UW-E4 is a professional educator preparation continuum to: recruit promising high school students into education professions; leverage dual enrollment/AP/IB courses; provide intensive clinical experiences including a one-year teaching residency/internship; and support novice educators through a formalized professional induction and mentoring program through their first four years in Wyoming classrooms.
  • Proposal 2017-09: Ethical Educator Preparation Program integrates a formalized ethics strand throughout the UW College of Education's teacher preparation program with graduates signing an Oath of Ethics as part of commencement ceremonies.
  • Proposal 2017-12: Common Indicator Set, participation in a national consortium of high-performing programs using a common set of metrics to support innovation and continuous modernization of educator preparation.

July 21, 2017: University of Wyoming Board of Trustees approves TEI Proposal 2017-01 for implementation by the College of Education

The University of Wyoming Board of Trustees has approved TEI innovation proposal 2017-01: Avatar Augmented Reality Simulations for the use of Mursion® technology to support the preparation of education professionals at the University of Wyoming. Following the Board of Trustees action, TEI now will support and engage with the College of Education in its implementation, measurement, and monitoring of Proposal 2017-01. As part of this engagement, the TEI Coordinating Council will work closely with the College of Education Research Work Group as the Proposal’s performance metrics are established to measure the effects of this innovative use of technology. 

We are grateful to all involved in the collaboration to develop, review, refine, and take action on this proposed innovation to leverage technology in a new way to enhance the preparation of educator candidates at the University of Wyoming in support of the success of all Wyoming P-12 learners.
