"Masters Of Misery" Haunted House Raises Money for Charity Oct. 29

October 29, 2009

Zombies, headless scarecrows, and demented clowns will haunt the halls of the University of Wyoming's Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity house this Halloween season.

Since 2001, SAE has hosted a haunted house for charity. The event, dubbed the "Masters of Misery," has grown in popularity each year. Festivities begin Thursday, Oct. 29, at 7 p.m. with a family hour when the haunted house is toned down so children, or those easily frightened, can have fun. Family hour is offered all three nights, starting at 7 p.m. Friday and 6 p.m. Saturday. Doors will be open until 11 p.m. Thursday night and midnight on Friday, Oct. 30, and Saturday, Oct. 31.

Admission for the haunted house is $5 and all proceeds are donated to Albany County SAFE Project and Children's Miracle Network. Last year SAE raised more than $3,000 during its few day stint.

"We spend hours every year looking for new scare tactics and designs for our rooms," committee chair Ted Doty said. "We sit down and go through last year's house and talk about what worked, what didn't work and how we can make it better. Our goal is to give a better scare every year."

SAE will host other events throughout the year to promote and raise money for Albany County SAFE Project and Children's Miracle Network, which are SAE's local and national philanthropies, respectively.
