The University of Wyoming equestrian club enjoyed a strong showing at its first western riding event of the 2009-10 season, placing 11 of 12 riders last weekend at Colby, Kan.
Katie French (Plymouth, Minn.; intermediate 1), McCabe Jones (Dillon, Colo.; novice) and Stephanie Schroeder (Douglas; open rail) all placed first in their respective classifications to lead UW. Brittany Unrein (Littleton, Colo.) added a third-place effort in intermediate 2 riding, and Schroeder also took fourth place in open reigning.
"The western team is off to a great start, and that's really an understatement," says UW Coach Kari Randle-Bright.
The Colby event, originally scheduled for two days, was limited to just a single day because of a weekend ice storm.
UW returns to competition Oct. 31-Nov. 1 at a hunter seat riding show in Omaha, Neb.
