Water Pong to Support Disaster Relief Saturday

October 1, 2009

Students will play ping pong and drink water Saturday, Oct. 3, to help raise money for disaster relief.

The water pong tournament, hosted by Rotaract, is from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. in Prexy's Pasture at the University of Wyoming. Rotaract is a UW student service club sponsored by Rotary International.

Registration fees are $15 per two-person team and include T-shirts and the cups to play. Fees will be donated to Shelterbox, an organization that provides disaster relief around the world. Teams will be divided into weight classes, based on information provided on the registration forms, and then placed onto a bracket.

"We have weight classes set up for every 15 pounds," said UW Rotaracts's president Benjamin Wiebers, "and partners do not need to correlate."

For this event Rotaract is working with Cowboy Choices, a student organization that promotes healthy and safe decisions involving alcohol.

"Cowboy Choices is making sure we are informing the participants about the dangers of binge drinking and drinking games, and helping them make smart choices," said Wiebers.
