WYditarod Food Drive Contest to Benefit Laramie Community

October 19, 2009

The University of Wyoming Student Activities Council will sponsor the WYditarod service project beginning at 5:30 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 21, at UW's Simpson Plaza.

Based on the Alaskan dogsled race, the Iditarod, each WYditarod team will feature four students acting as dogs tied to a shopping cart and one student as the "musher" racing around town to collect canned goods for the Laramie community.

"It's up to the teams to be creative at how to have the most cans," says Stephanie Meyer, event publicist. "Costumes are a must as it is near Halloween."

Participants are encouraged to bring the starting line canned food items. Checkpoints, announced the day of the event, will be set up throughout the community where teams can participate in a game to win more canned food items for their cart.

Prizes will be awarded in multiple categories, including first to finish, most cans, best costumes, best finish and most pathetic display.

For more information or to sign up for the event, call the Campus Activities Center at 766-6340 or visit the CAC office on the lower level of the Wyoming Union.
