Campus Construction Update for Week of Nov. 15

These are among the construction activities scheduled at the University of Wyoming during the week of Nov. 15-21:

Traffic Alert -- The UW Police Department reminds everyone that the speed limit around the perimeter of the campus, 9th, Lewis, Ivinson and 15th streets, is 20 mph.

Planning Update -- Supporting documents presented during the Oct. 29 workshop on UW's Long Range Development Plan can be reviewed on the Web. Go here.

The UW Facilities Planning Office reports the following activities scheduled for the week:

Berry Biodiversity Conservation Center -- Structural fill will continue to be imported and placed to form the building pad. Footings will be excavated and formed. Concrete form work will start to be built. Temporary gas line will be installed.

Old Power Plant -- Deconstruction and dust control will continue. The equipment separates and sorts the materials. More than 75 percent of the building materials are being diverted from the landfill and put into the recycle stream.

ILLC (Information Library and Learning Center) -- The project is substantially complete. Furniture installation, collection move and shelving will continue. The Union parking lot is open for metered parking. The dedication is scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 19.

College of Business Expansion and Renovation (Scheduled completion: Fall 2010) -- The contractor continues work on the exterior with masonry, windows and metal panels. Finish work has started in the basement with drywall installation occurring on the ground and second levels. Metal framing continues on the third level. Mechanical unit's installation continues in the penthouse.

Kendall House (Southeast corner of 8th and Fremont Streets, will become the Helga Otto Haub School of Environment and Natural Resources) -- Excavation for the addition is complete. Concrete footings and foundation walls for the addition will be complete this week. Interior demolition on the existing building is continuing. Concrete sidewalk modifications are complete and will be open to pedestrian traffic next week.

Biological Safety Lab, Level Three (BSL3) additions to the State Veterinary Laboratory -- Masonry work continues on the exterior of the building. Preparation of the roof deck will be under way. Utility rough-ins will be on-going in the northeast portion of the building.

War Memorial Stadium Expansion and Improvements (Scheduled Completion: Fall 2010) -- The East Stadium parking lot will be open on game days. Roofing continues this week, and the temporary heat enclosure is ongoing.

Lewis Street Apartment Removal -- The third and final apartment at 1113 E. Lewis Street is anticipated to be moved in a couple of weeks. Please use caution on Lewis Street between 11th and 12th Streets.

Engineering 4055 (Scheduled Completion: January, 2010) -- Electrical work continues in the research lab.

Bioscience General Classroom Renovations, Phase 2 (Scheduled completion date: Dec. 21) -- Demolition work is complete in Room 220, electrical work is scheduled this week. Some punch list items remain in Rooms 217, 218 and 219. Staging area takes up 1 parking spot in the Hoyt Hall loop drive.

Centennial Complex -- Exterior block repair is complete. Cap flashing is completed at the Sculpture Court and Art Museum window sills. Block cleaning complete. Control joint caulking and block sealing will be ongoing through next week. Staging for the contractor is on the northeast side of the building.

The UW Physical Plant has scheduled the following activities for the week:

Ross Hall -- The road between Knight Hall and Ross Hall remains closed from 13th Street west to the Student Health Building to repair a section of utility tunnel. Two-way traffic from Ivinson north to Student Health is being maintained on the west end of Knight Hall. Please use caution when driving in that area and yield to vehicles already in the roadway. Service vehicles can access Knight Hall from the southwest corner, and service access to Ross Hall will be off Prexy's on the north side of the building.

College of Agriculture -- Entrance doors to the Dean's Office will be replaced next week. Access to the Dean's office will be through alternate doors east and west of the main entrance. Signs will be posted.

Half Acre -- The work on the sidewalk between the Day Lot and Half Acre has been completed.

Corbett Building -- Exterior light installation is complete.

Health Sciences Building -- Landscaping has been completed. Final cleanup should occur next week.

Classroom Building and Health Sciences -- Roof drains have been re-routed. This work is complete.

Student Union -- Carpeting throughout the building is being replaced. Work will continue in limited areas until Thanksgiving.

Engineering Building -- Window sill repairs on 4th, 5th and 6th floors inside of the court area on the east wall have been completed.

RMMC (Regulated Materials Management Center) -- Re-roofing continues. The staging area is on the south side of building. Please use caution when entering from the south and around the staging area. Fan replacement on the storage wing will occur in conjunction with the roof replacement.

Golf Course Club House Roof Replacement -- Roof replacement is in progress. Interior lights have been shut down while re-wiring occurs.
